Red Mountain AVA is known as the warmest growing region within the Columbia Valley. Here, our vineyards sit on southwest facing slopes which allow them to see ample sunshine. The 2016 growing season began earlier than usual, with warmer temperatures lasting through spring and into summer. The dry climate and long, sunny days led to an early bud break and accelerated vine growth. As harvest approached the temperatures cooled, allowing the grapes to ripen to perfection.
For our Vintage 2016 Malbec, we focused on using grapes from Red Mountain. We sourced a portion of Cabernet Sauvignon from Quintessence Vineyards, one of the winemaker’s favorite sites, to add structure, complexity and to round out the mouthfeel. This wine is fruit-forward, with aromas and tastes of dark fruit, blueberry and spice. Pair alongside savory dishes like seasoned lambchops and herb mashed potatoes or pork tenderloin.

"The 2016 Malbec Red Mountain reveals the standard inky blue color that's common from the variety as well as beautiful purity in its blue fruits, violets, and underbrush aromas and flavors. Ripe, sexy, yet also pure, with nicely integrated acidity, it's a terrific wine to drink over the coming 7-8 years, if not longer." - JD
