After harvesting on October 16, 2015, the grapes for this wine were de-stemmed at the winery and transferred into tanks. Fermentation occurred at 85°F-95F in small-lot, stainless steel fermenters after one day of cold soak on the skins. During fermentation, pump overs were used for extraction of intense color and flavor. Malolactic fermentation was completed to create a round mouthfeel. All lots were barrel aged in 225-liter barrels for 16 months in a combination of 55% French and 45% American oak barrels and 36% of which were new.
Our Columbia Winery Vintage 2015 Tempranillo is bold and is full of intriguing, complex flavors. This wine has strong typicity, in the true Washington style. On the palate, hints of cherry and plum are complemented by acidity to create a well-balanced wine. Firm tannins round out the mouthfeel and lead into a rich finish. This wine is extremely food-friendly and can be paired with anything from spicy Mexican dishes to a savory, home-cooked beef stew.
