After harvesting the Merlot on Sept 14th and 15th, 2015 the grapes for this wine were destemmed and quickly transferred to tanks. Fermentation occurred at a minimum of 88°F in small-lot, stainless steel tanks. During fermentation, pump-overs were used for concentrated extraction of color and flavor. Malolactic fermentation was completed to create a round mouthfeel and soften the wine. All lots were barrel aged in 225-liter and 265-liter barrels for 18 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, 49% of which were new.
Bold and fruit-forward, our Element Red Blend is our expression of renowned Wahluke Slope AVA. The majority of our 2015 blend is made with Merlot grapes, offering a stunning example of one of Washington’s best red varietals. On the palate, intense notes of toasted oak are followed by dark fruit and ripe plum, blending with subtle hints of brown spice and leather. Mouth-filling tannins lead to a long, lingering and smooth finish. Try this wine with your favorite savory grilled meats.
