Winemaking Notes

We harvested the Red Mountain fruit in late September and Horse Heaven Hills fruit in early October. At the winery, the grapes were destemmed and transferred to tanks. Fermentation occurred at a maximum temperature of 90°F in small-lot, stainless steel tanks after a couple days of cold soaking on the skins. During fermentation, pump-overs were used for intense extraction of color and flavor. Malolactic fermentation was partially completed to create a complex mouthfeel. All lots were barrel aged in 225-liter barrels for 17 months in a combination of new and used French and American oak barrels of which 42% were new.

Tasting Notes

For this wine we focused on highlighting the nuances of Red Mountain and Horse Heaven Hills. The result is a fruit-driven wine with aromas of blackberry, plum and spice. A firm acidity and juicy flavors create a finish that lingers. We blended Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon to lift the structure, add complexity and round out the mouthfeel.
