2012 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay

This lovely wine reflects the quality of two highly regarded vineyards in the Yakima Valley: Phil Church and Esparza. Phil Church Vineyard surrounds our Sunnyside winery and is ideal for growing Chardonnay with excellent natural acidity and delicious apple and pear flavors that meld nicely with the delightful tropical fruit characteristics imparted from the Esparza Vineyard Chardonnay grapes. In 2012, the Yakima Valley, a sub-AVA of the larger Columbia Valley, had an outstanding vintage, with long, sunny days and cool nights that fostered steady ripening. This has translated nicely to wines of incredible depth, structure and intensity, with well-balanced natural acidity.

Tasting Notes

A warm and toasty expression of Chardonnay, this wine opens with aromas of pear, apple and hints of tropical fruits. On the palate, flavors of a fresh baked apple pie unfold with a toasty bread character from the oak. A round mouthfeel and luscious, soft finish makes this Chardonnay a beautiful pairing for crab, creamy seafood Risotto, or of course, a baked Washington apple pie.
