A majority of the grapes for this 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon were selected from the Horse Heaven Hills region, which lies within the larger Columbia Valley AVA. Tucked between the southern Yakima Valley border and the Columbia River, grapes in the Horse Heaven Hills region grow on south-facing slopes that reach up to 1,800 feet above sea level. These higher elevation vineyards provide an ideal trifecta of growing conditions: well-drained soils for proper irrigation, strong winds continually funneled in from the Columbia Gorge that naturally contribute to canopy management, and optimal sun exposure for even ripening. In 2010, a cooler growing season and mild harvest resulted in wines with a higher acidity and brighter fruit flavors.
A Bordeaux-inspired blend, our Columbia Winery Milestone Red is a rich and complex blend of primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Black fruit and cedar aromas emerge from the glass and continue to the palate for a full-bodied blend with firm tannins and a lingering finish. The substantial structure and concentrated flavors of Milestone Red make this blend an ideal match for hearty beef dishes or pasta with flavorful red sauce.
