All of the grapes for our 2010 Porphyry Red Blend were selected from the Columbia Valley. In 2010, the growing season in the Columbia Valley was the first in a series of cooler-than-normal vintages in Eastern Washington. Fruit set, veraison and harvest all occurred about three weeks later than usual, resulting in elegant wines with an elevated acidity.
Reddish-purple in color, the Porphyry stone was a highly valued stone dating back to ancient Greece; in fact, porphyry itself translates to “purple” in Greek, which was viewed as the color of royalty. Naturally, this was the perfect name for our Sangiovese-Cabernet Sauvignon Red Blend for its color and regal taste. This luxurious blend opens with intense aromas of bright red and dark fruits with delicate floral notes. Flavors of crushed cranberry, sweet herbs and cola are framed by hints of oak and earth. A firm acidity runs throughout Porphyry, culminating in a lingering finish. Enjoy Porphyry with roasted lamb or a variety of grilled red meats.
