After harvesting in October 2013, the grapes for this wine were destemmed at the winery and transferred to tanks. Fermentation occurred at 85°F in small-lot, stainless steel tanks following up to three days of cold soaking on the skins. During fermentation, pump-overs were used for intense extraction of color and flavor. Malolactic fermentation was completed to create a round mouthfeel. All lots were barrel aged in 225-liter barrels for 19 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, 30% of which were new.
Approachable and fruit-forward, our 2013 Element is a dry red wine blend that expresses Wahluke Slope. The 2013 vintage offered stunning expressions of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon in Washington, so we chose to let these two grapes form the foundation of Element. The result is an oaky red wine with intense aromas of toasted oak and cassis that jump out of the glass quickly followed by notes of deep, dark cherry and ripe plum integrated with hints of brown spice, leather and dark chocolate. The tannins fill the mouth and lead to a smooth finish that we wish would never end. Try this dry red wine blend with braised short ribs or roasted chops with a pomegranate reduction. Drink now and enjoy for 3 - 5 years.
